Day 01: Arrive in Paro and journey to the capital, Thimphu

Upon arrival, you will receive a warm welcome from your dedicated local guide from Bhutan Best Inbound, who will accompany you throughout your remarkable journey across the enchanting lands of Bhutan.
Bhutan’s capital, Thimphu, is only a 1.5-hour picturesque drive away, located in a steep valley at an elevation of 2,350 MASL. Once you arrive at Amankora Thimphu, take some time to settle in before embarking on an exploration of the surrounding area. Delve into the treasures of Bhutanese culture by visiting notable sites such as the National Library, the Textile Museum, the Weaving Center, Buddha Point, and the National Memorial Chorten. Once back in town, immerse yourself in Thimphu’s cottage industries, witnessing the traditional art of paper-making and the meticulous process of hand-rolling incense. Stroll along the main street, adorned with Himalayan artifacts, and seize the opportunity to create your own personalized stamp at the post office. After a satisfying lunch, venture to the northern end of the valley to visit the magnificent Trashi Chhoe Dzong, the seat of Bhutan’s government and royal offices. Along the way to the Punakha Valley, marvel at the magnificent Simtokha Dzong, one of Bhutan’s oldest fortress monasteries, dating back to the 17th century, as well as the ancient wall paintings adorning the Hongtsho Goemba monastery.
Nestled at an elevation of 1,250m (4,100ft), Punakha awaits you in its warm and fertile valley, where the convergence of the Mo Chhu (Female River) and Pho Chhu (Male River) creates a thriving subtropical environment, perfect for cultivating rice and exotic fruits. Perched on a sheer cliff face at an altitude of 2,950m (9,678ft), this sacred monastery offers breathtaking views as you ascend the four hours trek, marveling at the sacred monastery majestically resting 900m above the valley floor. To ease the climb, mules and donkeys are available upon request. Prior to your journey, your guide will inquire whether you would like to avail yourself of this service.
After a satisfying lunch, either in a local farmhouse or at the lodge, embark on a short drive to the outskirts of Paro town, where the twin temples of Kyichu Lhakhang await. Dating back to the 7th century, these temples hold significant historical and religious importance as one of Bhutan’s earliest Buddhist sanctuaries.
