Trekking in Bhutan

Trekking in Bhutan is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. Bhutan’s stunning natural beauty and the relatively isolated nature of its trekking trails make the country a veritable paradise for trekkers. The treks range from an easy three-day trip from Thimphu to Paro to more difficult multi-day treks like the legendary Snowman Trek. Although there are twenty eight routes open to trekkers, this section focuses on the most popular Bhutan Treks like Druk Path Trek, Jomolhari,Trek Dagala Thousand Lakes Trek, Laya Gasa Trek, etc.

In Bhutan treks you will be shouldering a rather light backpack as you only have to carry essentials like water, a jacket and camera, the rest of your equipment is carried by horses or yaks.  You will be accomodated in two-person tents. The pack animals , guides and cooks will will camp close by and hot meals are served in dining tents. Due to the topography, trekking in Bhutan involves more than the usual number of ascents and descents in a day and hence you could be on the move for 8-9 hours. In some treks you could be camping close to 4000 to 4500 meters above sea level.

Almost all the treks offer a combination of natural discovery and an insight into the country’s delicate and unique daily life. Bhutan trekking trails are few trails left in the world where you could trek for days without coming across any human habitation.

Many trails take you to beautiful grasslands and pastures for livestock. Occasionally you will be greeted by thousands of wildflowers in riots, rare birds and if lucky you may spot blue sheep and Himalayan vultures.

The highlight of trekking in Bhutan is undoubtedly the majestic views of the Himalayan peaks and the tranquility which may give the trekker the ample time to reflect on oneself.

. Ensure to carry your sunscreen, warmers, hiking shoes, and other essentials.
